Consumption and Savings

Analysis of Consumption, Savings, Refunds, and Surpluses from Net Metering

When data from the utility meter is available, in the consumption and savings section, you can monitor the trends of energy drawn from the grid, self-consumed energy, refunds and savings from the net metering system, and any compensation for energy surpluses.

In the first of the three tabs, labeled energy, you’ll see, for each year, the total energy consumed, the self-produced (self-consumed) energy, and the percentage of self-consumption compared to total consumption for that year. This information is essential to evaluate the benefits of installing storage systems to increase photovoltaic self-consumption.

You can also view the energy balance for a given period — how much of the total consumption was self-consumed, how much was purchased, exchanged, or fed into the grid.
If the photovoltaic system produced more energy than was consumed in a given year, the surplus energy will be shown as a credit.

In the second tab, labeled Savings and Refunds, you’ll find payments for exchanged energy, net of administrative costs. Additionally, it calculates the savings from the self-consumed photovoltaic energy.

The third and final tab, labeled Surplus Compensation, shows payments from for any energy surplus that was not consumed during the calendar year.
